British Council DD calls on UGC Chairman

Andrew Newton, Deputy Director (DD) of British Council Bangladesh called on UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan at the latter’s office on last Wednesday. Md. Towhidur Rahman, Head of International Higher Education (IHE), Bangladesh and Regional Manager, South Asia Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan, British Council assisted him.
During the call on, UGC Chairman briefed Andrew Newton about the overall education system from primary to tertiary level of Bangladesh. He also projected the functions and activities of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh to Netwon. He observed that UGC has been relentlessly working for expansion and enhancement of quality of higher education of Bangladesh since its inception. He also emphasized that the current challenge in the education sector is enhancing and maintaining the quality of higher education in the country.
Prof Mannan, with regard to activities of British Council, opined that British Council Bangladesh has a rich collection of books in all branches of human sciences, which is significantly contributing to the development of knowledge and skills in Bangladesh.
He further said that UGC and British Council Bangladesh are jointly working on higher education to promote the quality development of higher education and UGC always feels comfortable to work with British Council.
