NGOs urge UN: Bring Myanmar to accountability

Cox’s Bazar CSO NGO Forum (CCNF), a network consisting local NGOs working in Cox’s Bazar district on Monday urged the United Nations to bring the Myanmar junta to accountability in the International Criminal Court and also to initiate a permanent mechanism to stop such ethnic cleansing and genocides in future.
The CCNF also demanded for a separate fund for local NGOs/CSOs (Civil Society Organisation).
The CCNF raised the demands at a memorandum, which was handed over to the visiting UN Secretary General Antoine Gutteres at Hotel Saymen in Coxsbazar, said a press release.
Abu Morshed Chowdhury, Co-Chair of the CCNF, formally handed over the memorandum to the dignitaries where they have also demanded separate fund for environment recovery and local NGOs.
According to the memorandum, the CCNF also urged the UN for full implementation of Grand Bargain commitment which envisages localization and “whole of society approach with peaceful co- existence” even which is necessary in this dwindling aid situation.
There should be full aid transparency especially for public scrutiny in respect of  
management, input and operation cost as well as an environment recovery fund should be initiated with a portion of aid money and with a core fund, it said in the memorandum.
The CCNF also appreciated the cooperation they have from all UN agencies and INGOs with the leadership of Bangladesh government in respect of Rohingya response, according to the memorandum.
Others team members of group who were present there included Khaleda Begum of YPSA, Moqbul Ahmed of COAST, Bimal Chandra Dey Sarker of Mukti, Didarul Alam Rahsed of Nongar, Ajit Nandi of BRAC, Shamsul Huda of SARPV, Abul Kahsem of HELP, Ziaur Rahman of SHED, and Sayed Tarikul Islam of ACLAB.
The written memorandum to Anotonio Guterres also copied to other visiting dignitaries namely Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President World Bank, Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Dr. Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund.
