International Anti-Corruption Day observed: Breaking of corruption chain to eliminate poverty emphasised

International Anti-Corruption Day was observed in Barisal on Tuesday calling for breaking the corruption chain by actively participating in anti-corruption movement to raise awareness against corruption for combating and preventing it to eliminate poverty. Conscious Citizen Committee (CCC) , local unit of Transparency International Bangladesh, arranged a procession, two-day long information exhibition and discussions on anti-corruption movement and activities at Ashwini Kumar Hall of the city. The discussion meeting was presided over by Prof. Syed Moazzem Hossain, President Barisal CCC, and addressed among others by Md. Gaus, Divisional Commissioner, Abu Md. Arif Siddique, Director of Anti Corruption Commission Bangladesh, Dr. ATM Mizanur Rahman, District Civil Surgeon, Saifur Rahman Miron, Convener of the anti-corruption information fair. The speakers said corruption increases poverty as it is a complex social, political and economic phenomenon that affects all sector of the country.
They noticed that corruption undermines democratic institutions, slows economic development and contributes to governmental instability.
Bagerhat Correspondent says: Anti-Corruption Day was observed in Bagerhat district town in a befitting manner on Tuesday by the various organisations to raise the voice against the growing corruptions.
 The theme of the day was ‘Break the corruption.’
Under the auspices of SANAC (Sachetan Nagaric Commikttee), Bagerhat with the assistance of TIB (Transparency International Bangladesh) a colourful rally that was brought out from the local Swadhinata Udyan in the morning paraded the main roads of the district town carrying anti-corruption banners and placards. The rally was led by Prof. Parimal Majumdar, principal, Bagearhat Govt. Girls’ College and Dr. Md. Bakir Hossain, Civisl Surgeon, Bagerhat. After the rally a lively discussion meeting was held in Swadhinata Udyan with Adv. Ram Krisna Basu, President of SANAC, Bagerhat in the Chair. The concept paper on the Day was placed in the meeting by Prof. Chowdhury Abdur Rab, SANAC member and the address of welcome was given by Adv. Shah Alam Tuku, convener of Anti-Corruption Day observance committee, Prof. Dr. Fayek Uzzaman, Vice Chancellor of Khulna University while was speaking in the meeting as the chief guest said, corruption is the main cause behind all sorts of disparities in the society and a great barrier behind all kinds of all of development of the country. So, we should take promise on the day to eliminate corruptions from the country in order to make it happy, prosperous and developed one.
Gouripur Correspondent reports: International Anti-Corruption Day was observed in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district on Tuesday with due respect and in a befitting manner marking the day. On October 31, 2003, the General Assembly adopted the United Nations Convention against Corruption and designated December 9 as International Anti-Corruption Day, to raise awareness of corruption and of the role of the Convention in combating and preventing it. The Convention entered into force in December 2005
