BRCS opens field hospital for Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar

In order to provide free medical treatment to Rohingyas Bangladesh Red Crescent Society ( BRCS) has been formed in the name of Emergency Response Unit Field Hospital (ERU) Gundum in Ukhia upazila under the initiative of the Norwegian, Finland and Japan Red Cross Society, says a press release.
In this 60-bed hospital there are 3 wards, one Operation Theater, two cabins of the Prasuti ward and a separate unit, including the exterior section. In addition to patients with psychosocial assistance, pregnant mothers, newborn babies and cholera, diarrhea patients will be treated in addition to all the diseases. It is to be noted that in addition to the people of Myanmar, local people will also be provided free treatment at this hospital.
The 60-bed Emergency Response Unit Field Hospital (ERU) will begin functioning on Monday, October 16. Hospital authorities said that medical treatment will be conducted by 15 doctors and 30 midwives of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital and specialist doctors. Also, 25 trained volunteers of the Red Crescent is providing support in this hospital gradually.
Mr. EIkram Elahi Chowdhury, Project Director, Population Movement Operation said that the 60-bed hospital will provide quality treatment to local people including Myanmar citizens. There will be all the facilities for pregnant mothers. A separate section for children will be opened. He hoped that this hospital will benefit the people of Myanmar as well as local people by taking various medical treatments.
Dr. Mohsin Uddin Ahmed, Health & PSS Expert, Population Movement Operation said, ERU Field Hospital is a 60 bed general hospital with a possible expansion of further 40 beds for cholera isolation unit. The life of the hospital is absolutely emergency basis and usually meant for 4 months. He says, the whole hospital has installed in the different types of tents with facility of patient and doctor and nurses accommodation is included in the other tents withing same capas. There are out and in patient ward, operation theatre, X-ray, lab, ultra sonogram and pharmacy.
Secretary General of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society B. M .M Mozharul Huq, NDC said this 60-bed hospital is the first fully functional hospital. This hospital will also assist in the work of the Medical Team and other clinics operating under the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. Because,if patient condition is more complicated, then they can send these patients for special treatment in this hospital.
 It is to be noted that, from August 25, the Mobile Medical Team, operated by Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, has provided free treatment to more than 4,000 patients.
