Brazil inflation hits decade low

AFP, Rio De Janeiro :
Brazil’s inflation fell to just 3.6 percent in May, its lowest rate in a decade, the government statistics office said Friday.
“Over the last 12 months, the index fell to 3.6 percent, where it was 4.08 percent the previous month, signifying the lowest rate since May 2007,” the IBGE institute said.
The steady slackening of price rises is in stark contrast to the 10.67 percent inflation hitting Brazilians at the end of 2015 and 6.29 percent last year. The official target is 4.5 percent and the government is now expected to lower that.
The high inflation period dovetailed with the country’s worst recession in history.
