BPDB, CEEC sign contract for repowering of GPP unit-4

Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) would sign a contract with China Energy Engineering Corporation(CEEC) for repowering of unit-4 of Ghorashal Power Plant(GPP) at Bidyut Bhaban, Mukti Hall at 10.00pm on Monday.
“The agreement would be signed for increasing power generation capacity to 409 megawatt (MW) from 210 MW with repowering of unit-4 of Ghorashal power plant,” Saiful Hasan Chowdhury, Director (Public Relation) of BPDB told BSS here yesterday.
He said the World Bank (WB) has financed around Taka 2,029 crore for the development of the unit-4 of Ghorashal power plant. According to the contract, the Chinese company would implement simple cycle of the unit by 2017, while the combined cycle by 2018.
Secretary of the BPDB M Zahurul Haque and representative of CEEC would sign the contract on behalf of their respective sides. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid would witness the signing ceremony as the chief guest, while Monowar Islam, secretary of power division under the ministry would preside over the function.
