Boy killed on charge of ‘coconut theft’ in Chandpur

A 17-year old boy was allegedly stabbed to death by a man while he refused allegation of stealing of green coconut at Ghashipur in Haziganj upazila of Chandpur district on Monday night.
The boy has been identified as Kawsar Gazi, son of Kalu Gazi in Ghashipur in the upazila.
The law enforcers have arrested the suspected killer and his cohorts.
They are Rakib, 22, and his father Hannan, a resident of in the village, said Jabedul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Haziganj Police Station.
“Kawsar and his nephew Hridoy went to drink water of green coconut at residence at Shahin Gazi. At this time, Rakib raised allegation of stealing green coconut against Kawsar and hit him with an iron stick following an altercation at around 10:30pm on Monday,” the police official said.
Sensing the danger, Hridoy fled from the spot and informed the matter to their relatives. The family members rescued Kawsar and rushed him to a local hospital where the on duty doctors declared him dead, the OC said.
The local mob caught them after searching in the village and handed the to the police giving serious beating on Tuesday morning, he said.
They body was sent to the Sdar Hospital for an autopsy in the afternoon, the OC said.
A case was filed with the police station in this connection, he added.
