Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League: Bowlers set up comfortable win for Abahani

A fierce bowling spell by the Abahani bowlers saw them to record a comfortable five-wicket victory over their arch-rival Mohammedan Sporting Club in a low scoring first round match of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League held on Wednesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur in the city.
Chasing Mohammedan’s 168 runs, bahani Limited reached home in 37.5 overs for the loss of five wickets.
Opener Liton Sarkar contributed 55 runs off 65-ball hitting seven boundaries and one over boundary before he was fell victim of run out while second down batsman Rokibul Hasan added 41-run off 44-ball smashing four boundaries. Alauddin Babu was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh picking up two wickets giving away 26 runs.
Earlier, The Abahani bowlers proved their captain’sZiaur Rahman’s decision of bowl first right as they threatened early inroad on Mohammedan innings dismissing both the openers early in the 2 runs in the scorecard. Mohammedan finally managed to score 168 for 9 from their allotted 50 overs.
Mohammedan’s misery continued as the Abahani bowlers kept their domination all through the match picking up wickets in regular intervals. Mohammedan lost their top six wickets at only 44 runs in the face of tight bowling attacks by Abahani bowlers, especially Shuvashish Roy.
However skipper Mashrafe Mortaza rescued Mohammedan from total embarrassment with a priceless half century. The Narail speedster top scored with 61-run off 73-ball hitting seven boundaries and three over boundaries. All rounder Naeem Islam supported him with 45 runs 0ff 109 balls with the help of two boundaries.
Shuvashish Roy was the pick of Abahani bowlers taking three wickets for 18 runs. He was well supported by Al-Amin who bagged two wickets conceding 27 runs.
