Bourses extend losing streak

Country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), closed on Tuesday extending losing streak amid poor earnings declarations by a number of large-cap companies.
The broad index, DSEX closed at 4621.19 points on the day with a loss of 29.69 points or 0.63 percent.
Besides, the two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and Shariah index, DSES also went down by 20.24 points and 3.63 points to settle at 1550.97 points and 1069.93 points respectively.
On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 154,969 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with a trading volume of 211.77 million securities.
Market turnover, another crucial indicator, stood at Taka 6.29 billion, which was five percent higher over previous day’s mark of Taka 6.0 billion.
Gainers took a lead over losers as out of 355 issues traded, 179 securities gained price while 125 declined and 51 remained unchanged.
The top 10 gainers were CVO PRL, Central Pharma, Global Heavy, Mozaffar Hossain Spinning, Olympic Accessories, Northern Jute, Fu-wang Food, Samata Leather, Fortune Leather and Far Chemical.
Brac Bank topped the turnover chart followed by VFS Thread, Indo-Bangla Pharma, Grameenphone, Orion Infusion, Fortune Shoes, Saiham Cotton, Summit Power, Square Pharma and Orion Pharma.
The top 10 losers were Brac Bank, Family Tex, Saiham Textile, Summit Power, Paramount Insurance, Rahim Tex, Prime Insurance, Bank Asia, Generation Next and City Bank.
On the other hand, port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also closed at red extending the losing trend of previous day.
CSCX and CASPI declined by 72.42 points and 115.06 points to stand at 8583.76 points and 14148.92 points respectively.
