Both DCC mayors hopeful of AL ticket in election

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam, expect the ruling Awami League will give them nomination again in upcoming Dhaka City polls to continue the development work in the capital.
They expressed their hope while addressing an event, jointly organized by DNCC and DSCC at the Bangabandhu
National Stadium on Monday to accorded to freedom fighters and their families.
Mayor Sayeed Khokon said, “I have been able to introduce some positive changes and successfully overcome some vital crises of the city, including water-logging in many regions of DSCC. All areas under Dhaka South City Corporation have been developing gradually. So I’m fully hopeful of being given nomination by the party (Awami League).”
Responding a query, he said electronic voting machines (EVM) are likely to be used in this election by maintaining the regulations of the local government.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said, “If I’m nominated by the Awami League and elected by poll, I want to utilize the experience gathered in the last nine months since election in the by-polls after the death of Mayor Annisul Huq.”
“Our priority is to build a smart city by finding a solution for the constant traffic jam in Dhaka,” said Mayor Atiqul.
He said, “Solution to water-logging problem, greenisation, bringing traffic congestion down at the tolerable level and coordination among 54 departments are a big challenge. If I am elected, I will work on developing the city by cooperating with other organizations.”
The elections to Dhaka North and South City Corporation are slated to be held on January 30, 2020.
