A day-long Botany olympiad was held at Lecture Theater of Department of Botany in Rajshahi University (RU) on Sunday. Over 200 students from different colleges under Rajshahi Education Board participated in the event organised by Bangladesh Botanical Society and RU’s Department of Botany.
RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan and Pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha addressed the session as the chief and special guests respectively with Chairman of the department Prof Nurul Amin in the chair.
VC Prof Abdus Sobhan in his speech said the world was moving forward keeping pace with the advancement of science. The olympiad would help explore latent talents of students and take Bangladesh ahead.
In the closing session, three of the students were given crests of first, second and third positions respectively for their brilliant performance while 10 were given medals.
Apart from this, all other participating students were given certificates.
