Livestock Service Week begins: Boosting animal production to meet protein demand stressed

Speakers at a discussion here stressed the need for boosting safe animal production to meet people’s protein demand for building a healthy nation.
They said the unemployment problem in the region especially in its rural areas could also be reduced to a greater extent through making the animal resource farming popular in the grassroots level.
Department of Livestock Services (DLS) organised the discussion on its Thana Livestock Office premises to mark the Livestock Service Week- 2018 in the city on Monday.
Former Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Superintendent of Police Muazzem Hossain Bhuiyan addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Shalahuddin in the chair.
Deputy Directors of DLS Dr Abdul Jabbar Shikder and Dr Sheikh Azizur Rahman and Additional District Livestock Officer Zulfikar Akhtar Hossain also spoke.
During his keynote presentation, District Livestock Officer Mizam Uddin depicted the overall situation of animal production and its prospects in the region.
Khairuzzaman Liton said the region has an enormous prospect of expanding the livestock sector through best uses of its existing natural resources. There is no alternative to expansion of poultry and dairy farming to increase animal protein for freeing the nation from malnutrition, he added.
Contribution of the livestock sector is immense in terms of meeting up the protein deficiency and socioeconomic development, he also said.
He called for giving proper importance on adopting modern technology, promotion of high yielding varieties and farmers training to attain the cherished goal.
On the occasion, a daylong livestock exhibition was also organized there showcasing various livestock service related modern technologies.
Baraigram (Natore) Correspondent reports: On the occasion of the Livestock Service Week, a colourful rally and a discussion meeting were arranged by Livestock Department in Baraigram under Natore district on Monday. After parading the main roads of Bonpara, the rally joined to a discussion meeting at the upazila auditorium hall.
The meeting was presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Anwar Parvej. Upazila AL Chairman Abdul Jalil PK was present as a chief guest and Principal, Bonpara Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hon’s College Md Abdur Razzak Mollah was present as a special guest. It was addressed among others by Upazila Lifestock Officer Dr. Antim Kumer Sarker and Upazila Veterinary Sergeon Dr Uzzal Kumer Kundu.
BSS from Rangpur adds: State Minster for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Alhaj Mashiur Rahman Ranga here yesterday said the boosting livestock sector is effectively cutting poverty in rural areas.
“The present government has achieved a huge success in meeting nutritional demand of the population by increasing meat, fish, milk and egg production,” Ranga said at a discussion held at Town Hall auditorium as the chief guest.
Lauding the huge success achieved in the livestock sector, the chief guest called for further boosting production in the sector for meeting protein demand of the population to build a middle income healthier nation by 2021 and developed country by 2041.
