Boost crop, fruit production adopting latest technologies

Speakers at the inaugural ceremony of a fair here on Sunday afternoon stressed for boosting production of crops and fruits adopting the latest technologies to ensure food security, meet nourishment and alleviate poverty.
They put emphasis on innovating time-befitting agriculture technologies for cultivation of crops and hybrid variety fruits by imparting training to the farmers in ensuring more production despite adverse impacts of climate change.
They said this in inaugural ceremony of the three-day ‘Upazila Agriculture Technology and Fruit Tree Fair-2015’ being jointly organised by the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) and upazila administration on Pirgachha upazila parishad premises.
The fair is being organised to disseminate latest agriculture technologies for increasing production of crops and fruits in ensuring food security, meeting food and nutrition demand of the growing population.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Home Ministry and valiant freedom fighter Tipu Munshi, MP, formally inaugurated the fair as the chief guest with Pirgachha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Aliya Ferdous Jahan in the chair
Pirgachha Upazila Chairman Alhaj Afsar Ali, it’s Vice Chairman Shah Farhad Hossain and Female Vice-chairman Manjuri Begum, Upazila Awami League President Abdul Hakim Sarder, it’s General Secretary Abdullah Al Mahmud Milan, Upazila Muktijoddha Commander Wazed Ali Sarker and Upazila Agriculture Officer Zahedul Haque Chowdhury attended the ceremony as special guests.
Different government, non-government and private sector organisations, nursery owners, farmers have set up stalls displaying fruit tree saplings, many varieties of fruits, agro-machineries, equipments, technologies and agro-products in the fair.
The speakers asked for increasing production of all crops and high-valued, hybrid and developed varieties of fruits to attain national food security, meet nutritional demand and achieve self-reliance.
The chief guest said the country has achieved epoch-making success in agriculture sector by increasing crop production following pragmatic and time-befitting steps taken by the present pro-people government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The present government has put maximum emphasis on keeping crop production increasing through ensuring optimum use of cultivable land and adapting with climate change that has been posing serious threat on the agriculture sector, he said.
He called upon the agriculture scientists, researchers, experts and farmers for expanded adoption of the latest technologies to increase crop and fruit production consistently to meet food and nutritional demand for the growing population.
