Book on community policing launched

The publication of a book titled “Police and Community with Concept of Community Policing” written by Additional Inspector General of Police (ADIGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque was launched at Bangladesh Police Auditorium at Rajarbagh recently.
HT Imam, Advisor (Political Affairs) to the Prime Minister unveiled the cover of the book as the chief guest. Chairman of Criminology Department of Dhaka University Professor Dr Zia Rahman was the discussant of the book.
State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmood Khandker attended the ceremony as the special guests.
Chaired by Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Benzir Ahmed, it was also addressed, among others, by ADIGP Moklesur Rahman and owner of Khoshrose Kitab Mahal publication Mohiuddin Ahmad.
Besides, a large number of police officials and other civil officials of civil administration were present at the programme.
In the book, AKM Shahidul Hoque said, Community Policing is a modern concept of policing. It encourages the voluntary participation of the people in police jobs. In other worlds, the way of performing policing through police-community partnership strategy for effective crime control, crime prevention, maintaining order and dealing with other social issues is community policing.
He said community policing is a philosophy that helps traditional police force to address the causes of crime, fear of crime and community issues. The book contained 11 chapters and five topics, which would help to make bridge between the police and the community people aimed at reducing crimes from the society.
