Book Fair begins at JU

A three-day long book fair began at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Saturday amid joys of the book lovers.
The Bangla Sangsad of JU and the Bangla Department are organising the fair, said Assistant Professor Dr Rezaul Karim of the Bangla Department. He is also the convener of the fair committee.
The fair is featured by inaugural ceremony, a free discussion session with the participation of readers and writers, and unveiling of the covers of new books written by the teachers and the students of the Bangla Dept.
JU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Farzana Islam inaugurated the fair as the
chief guest at around 11:00 am on the premises of the new Arts building of the university.
Professor Oniruddho Kahali, Chairman of the Bangla Dept presided over the inaugural session, while Professor Dr Abul Khayer, Treasurer of the JU delivered the welcome speech. Prof Syed Kamrul Ahsan, Dean of Arts and Humanities Faculty, also addressed the programme.
Addressing the inaugural session, JU VC Prof Farzana Islam said “The main responsibility of a writer is to proliferate the knowledge of the readers, and to make the relation between them indispensible”
A total number of 18 prominent publications of the country, including the Bangla Academy, Bishwa Shahitya Kendro, Onindo Publication and Kotha Prokash, set up their stalls in the fair. The book fair is open to the visitors from 11:00 am to 6:00pm everyday.
