The venues of the month-long Amar Ekushey Boi Mela have become centre places for exchange of greetings between the city residents who assemble here every day in memory of he country’s glorious past history.
They accumulate on the protected Bangla Academy premise and at the Suhrawardy Udyan to pass a few hours in a joyous and hilarious mood.
Book lovers are gradually turning up in an increased number, and on Friday it
 looked like a sea. However, most of them were seen browsing titles and showing curiosity about new arrivals.
Talking to The New Nation, a Dhaka University student, Ashraful Huq Ishtiak, who came with one of his friends, said, ‘We have not come to buy books, but to meet friends.’
The Boi Mela premises witnessed the highest number of 130 new arrivals on Friday. Of them, Raktogolap of Syed Shamsul Haque and Muktijuddher Rachona Shamogra of Abul Maal Abdul Muhith published by Mawla Brothers, Ayna Vanga Road of Luthfor Hasan published by Desh Publication, Manobjanom of Sadat Hussein published by Bhasachitra Publication and Ek Lakkho Like of Anisul Haque published by Shomoy Publication.
The first two hours from 11:00am to 1:00pm are dedicated to the children, whose presence was remarkable in the morning. The children with their guardians crowded the stalls at the children’s corner, inside Suhrawardy Udyan.
The fair authorities have declared children’s hour taboo for the general visitors. The children can buy books without facing any hassle.. Most of them bought books based on comic characters and fairy tales. A guardian can, however,accompany a child visitor
Dipok Roy, Chief Executive of Sanghati Prakashon said that it was normal that Boi Mela would witness huge crowds on holidays.
Many youths visited stalls. MH Riyad, a Sales Executive, said, only a few visitors buy books. The ambience of the fair and the stall decoration attracted many visitors, he said.
On the day, the academy organized several discussions on different aspects of literature on different venues of Bangla Academy.
However, the four-day long international literature festival will conclude today while Bangla Academy will hold several discussions on different arena of literature where laureate from different countries will participate.
The Mela committee also declared children’s hours from 11am to 1pm today for the consecutive second day.
