Boi Mela awaiting Ekushey February

The publishers are now waiting for bumper sale on Saturday, the 21st February, at the the Amar Ekushey Boi Mela. This day is also known as International Mother Language Day.
They said that they usually wait for special occasion for huge sale. Ekushey February is the most important special day for the Boi Mela. Thousands of book lovers and mass people throng the Mela on the day every year.
The publishers have also completed all the preparations to decorate their stalls to receive the book lovers smoothly. They have engaged extra manpower to give the better service to the book lovers and buyers.
Sirajul Kabir Chowdhury, Managing Editor of Anya Prokashan told The New Nation that they are waiting for the day of Ekushey February. There are two reasons to wait for the day. One is that the sale of books is better than any other day of the Boi Mela. Another is that the Bangla Academy is organized the Boi Mela in the honour of the day.
“Thousands of people come to place floral wraths at the Central Shaheed Minar and visit the Boi Mela to buy some books for their personal collection and children. Some of them buy books for their near and dears. Besides this, the huge people come to the Boi Mela as the Ekushey February is the public holiday. They buy large number of books also. That is why we wait every year for the day,” Kabir Chowdhury said.
Robin Ahsan, Publisher of Srabon Prokashani, said, “We feel proud of the day of Ekushey February because the day is observed all over the globe in recognition to our Language Movement. Millions of people pay homage to the language martyrs to remember their contribution. As a publisher I always wait for the day because the publishers sale the highest number of books on this day. The book lovers also keep the time in their hands to spend more time at the Boi Mela. This year we are hopeful to sale like the previous years.”
Emdadul Haque Milon, a famous writer, said, “Most of the writers want to unveil their books’ cover on the day of Ekushey February. The noted writers, ministers, MPs, VCs of the universities and others designated persons choose the day to come at the Boi Mela. So, a number of new books to be unveiled on this day.”
Murshid Anwar, Deputy Director of Bangla Academy, told The New Nation that the authorities of Bangla Academy remain busy on the day of Ekushey February as huge crowd is seen on the day. The academy also requested the law enforcing agencies to deploy extra member of the agencies to avert any untoward incident in and around the Boi Mela, he said.
Meanwhile, seventy seven new books arrived and 19 cover of the books were unveiled on Thursday.  
A drawing competition will be held in the main podium of the Bangla Academy at 10am today (Friday).
Director General of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan will preside over the function while Vaswar Bandapadhyay will attend as the guest and Ashraful Alam, Dalia Ahmed and Mahidul Islam will be present as the judges.
Of the new books, 11 are storybooks, eight novels, two essay books, 25 poems, ten children literature, two on biography, one on Liberation War, one on Science, two on travel, two on science fiction and 13 books on other subjects.

A discussion on “Scientist Maksudul Alam” was held in the main podium of the Bangla Academ in the evening.
Md Shah-e-Alam presided over the function while Shamsuddin Ahmed presentn the keynoted paper. Kamal Uddin, Aparesh Bandapadhyay and Nurunnahar Mukta joined the discussion. A fascinating cultural programme was held in the evening.
The discussion on “Vashasongrami Abdul Matin” will be held in the main podium of the Bangla Academ today (Thursday).
Columnist Syed Abul Maksud will preside over the function while Ahmad Majhar will present a keynote paper. Masuda Vatti and Mohammad Ali will address the discussion.
