Bogura DC asks traders to unload potatoes from cold storages

Bogura district administration on Friday asked the traders to unload potatoes stored for sale from cold storages as early as possible amid the price hike of the vegetable.
The directive came following a meeting of deputy commissioner Md Ziaul Huque with potato traders at his office in the afternoon.
Mentioning the traders Deputy Commissioner in the meeting said, “Unload all potatoes from the cold storage quickly except the seed potatoes and sale at Tk 30 a kg as fixed by the government.”
If anyone violates the government order, legal steps would be taken, added the DC.
Tofazzal Hossain, owner of Bogura Bhander Cold Storage, said there are both seed potatoes of farmers and potatoes of traders in his cold storage and he will suggest traders to unload their potatoes quickly to keep the price rate normal in market.
Department of Agriculture Extension deputy director Shahaduzzaman said traders stored more potatoes then the seed potatoes in the storage.
If the traders stop the hoarding of potatoes, price of it would be normal, he added.
Additional district magistrate Md Salahuddin Ahmed, additional superintendent of police Sanatan Chakrabarty, Chamber of Commerce and Industry leaders and potato traders, among others, were present in the meeting.
