Bogra, June 8 (UNB)- An accused in the attack on a Shia mosque in Bogra was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Haripur village in Shibganj upazila early Wednesday. The deceased identified as Kawsar, son of Amir Ali of Kamar Ali village. He was an alleged member of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). Assistant Superintendent of Police Gaziur Rahman of Bogra said another arrested accused in the case in his confessional statement before the court said Kawsar was directly involved in the mosque attack. Following this information, a team of police launched a drive in Jamtali Bridge area of Shibganj upazila to arrest Kawsar around 3:30am. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, three-four youths hurled hand grenades towards them, leaving two constables injured. At one stage, police members opened fire to the miscreants when one of the bullets hit Kawsar. Later, police arrested Kawsar with injuries and whisked him off to Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead. On November 26, 2015, a group of 4-5 unidentified gunmen stormed a Shia mosque at Haripur village and opened fire on the devotees while they were offering their maghrib prayers, leaving four of them, including its muezzin, injured. Later, the muezzin succumbed to his injuries. Police have arrested three people in connection with the incident till now.
