Body recovered from deep tubewell after 35 days

Staff Reporter :Police on Thursday recovered the decomposed body of housewife Shahina Akhter, 32, that was dumped about 80 feet beneath the surface in a worn-out deep tube well in Debidar of Comilla about 35 days ago.The diggers after a hectic search for last six days managed to pull out the body at about 12:30 pm. They had to dig up the well about 65 feet to see the decomposed body wrapped in cloths.SP of Comilla Tutul Chakravarty was present there to supervise the operation.On February 7, Shahina went missing from her in-law’s house and her brother Shah Alam filed a general diary with the concerned police station in this connection.Police came to know that the ill-fated housewife was brutally murdered by the killers hired by her husband Mobarrak Hossain, an expatriate to Dubai. The mystery was revealed a month after her missing when the arrested killer Abdul Karim confessed to the police about his involvement in the gruesome murder. Acting on his information, police located the body of victim Shahina Akhter beneath the deep tube well. The expatriate man hired a killer in exchange for Tk two lakh to kill her wife and daughter. As per deal, Karim and 4/5 of his cohorts called Shahina, asked her to come out of the house around 12:00am on February 7 and strangled her to death. The killers dumped the body in a deep tube-well and closed its opening with mud.Shahina and Mobarrak Hossain got married about 12 years ago. They have two sons and a daughter. Mobarrak came to Bangladesh two years ago and frequently locked in heated altercations with his wife.Following the dispute, Mobarrak and his family members began torturing her. His family members continued to torturing his wife although Mobarrak went back to Dubai after four months.Brother of victim Shah Alam said, “My sister couldn’t take it anymore and at one stage lodged a case with Debiddar Police Station. Mobarrak pressured her to withdraw the case over phone. He also asked her to leave Mobarrak’s house in Sultanpur union’s Sechrapukuria village but Shahina denied.” “We arrested Abdul Karim on information from Mainamati Cantonment area and he confessed to be paid Tk two lakh to kill Shahina,” Sub-inspector Shah Kamal Akand, Investigation Officer, said.Victim’s children Imran Hossain, 11, Tushar Ahmed, 8, and Rozia Akhter, 5, are now kept under the observation of close relatives.Victim’s eldest son Imran told newsmen that their mother went to sleep with them after having dinner but they could not find her in the morning.
