Dead body of Omar Faruque Hridoy, 26, son of Shah Alam of Kawnia Housing Estate of the city and a student of textile engineering department of Ahsanullah University in Dhaka, has been recovered from Durgasagar Pond on Wednesday night.
Officer in Charge of Airport Police Station Zahid Bin Alam confirming this report said the victim after betting with his friends to cover the pond, a historical tourist spot at Madhabpasha area under Babuganj Upazila of the district, by round trip swimming.
He started swimming at 12 pm Wednesday noon.
However after went till middle of the pond he became missing as drowned in the pond, said Md. Wali, district council staff employed to supervise the pond.
Then fire service and civil defense authourity was called and they rushed to the spot recovered him as dead at 9:00 pm on Wednesday after continuous searching.
The dead body would be send to Barishal SBMCH morgue for autopsy, police sources added.
