The body of a four-year old boy, who fell into sewerage in the city’s Mirpur, was recovered on Friday morning after 19 hours.
The deceased has been identified as Zunayed Hossain Sabbir, son of Amir Hossain, a driver of human hauler.
He resided at House No. 33 and Road No.3 in Rupali Housing area in Mirpur section-3 and
hailing from Laskmipur district, said Anwar Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service Headquarters.
Rabiul Islam, a cleaning worker of Dhaka North City Corporation, retrieved the body some 150 to 200 metres away from the point where Zunayed fell near Dhaka Commerce College.
The body of Zunayed was found near a water pump around 10:45 am.
Quoting family members, Fire Service Control Room official Atiqur Rahman, said, “Sabbir used to live with his family in one of the huts along the sewerage line which is two kilometers long and 4 to 5 feet wide near Mirpur Commerce College. He was reportedly playing near to it around 4:00pm on Thursday while there was a light drizzle. His family, having failed to trace him, assumed he had fallen into the canal, informed the fire service at 10:00pm.”
On information, three fire fighting units and divers searched for Sabbir from 10:30pm to 3:00am, he said.
Later, the operation to rescue the boy resumed around 7:30am after a pause of four and a half hours. But getting no trace of the sunken boy, the divers closed the search operation around 10:30 am yesterday.
