Action if anyone tries to influence polls process: EC

Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam on Friday warned of taking action if anyone attempts to influence the overall process for holding the 11th parliamentary election.
“We will take steps, even if any secretary or the inspector general of police attempts to influence the polls process,” Rafiqul said while talking to reporters in his office in Dhaka.
He also spoke about the transfer and reshuffle in civil and police administration ahead of polls.
“There is no possibility of the reshuffle in the civil and police administration. The cause of this is professionalism. We are emphasizing on their professionalism.”
He added that the legal measures would be taken based on specific allegations and the Election Commission (EC) will have to be convinced first.
About allegation over violation of polls code lodged by different political parties including BNP, Rafiqul said that the EC has already taken
some allegations of the party for consideration.
“We are still reviewing BNP’s allegations and we have already taken some measures in response to their call,” he said.
Responding to a query, he said the commission cannot respond hurriedly to any allegation as it follows a due process.
Replying another query, EC Rafiqul said, the meeting between the PM and the retired Military personnel did not violate election code of conduct. She is still PM of Bangladesh. She can do meet or discuss anyone in her residence about anything except electoral activities.
Does the EC feel any pressure while discharging functions? To reply EC Rafiqul said, Commission does not feel any pressure. We are taking all issues with utmost importance.
On the other hand, EC directed to the election related officials that taking video and still picture inside the booth would be considered as crime.
The EC’s Additional Secretary Md Kamrul Hasan said this while speaking at the two days long workshop arranged for government officials at Nirbachon Bhaban.
