UNB, Chittagong :
The body of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury exhumed at examination on Saturday. In compliance with a court order, Diaz’s body was dug out from the grave at Chittagong University (CU) around 8:15 am and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said additional superintendent of police Ohidur Rahman.
The body was exhumed in presence of Arifur Rahman Sarker, executive magistrate, Hathazari upazila.
Sajed Bin Hamid, uncle of Diaz, was also present.
The court passed the order after ASP Ohidur Rahman and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted an appeal for a fresh autopsy for further investigation on Monday. The court also directed the forensic department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to form a three-member committee in this regard.
Earlier on November 20, the body of Diaz, also a former joint secretary of CU unit BCL, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his bedroom at his family’s rented house at Gate-2 area of the university.
On November 23, an autopsy report mentioned that Diaz hanged himself.
However, his family rejected the report saying that Diaz was killed in a pre-planned way by his rivals following a dispute over tender for the construction of some university buildings.
In the next day, Jaheda Amin Chowdhury, mother of Diaz, filed the case with the Chittagong Judicial Magistrate’s Court against ten people including the president of CU unit Chhatra League.
