Body formed to probe Sylhet ex-BCL leader’s death in custody

A three-member committee was formed on Sunday to probe into the death of a former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in police custody at Jaintapur police station in the district.
Ex BCL leader Nazrul Islam Babu, 32, also former employee of Jaintapur upazila administration and son of Abdul Jalil, of Chiknagul Kohaigor village of the upazila died on May 19 while police claimed that he committed suicide.
Police arrested Nazrul from Bateswar area of the city on Thursday night.
He was the accused in a case filed by his wife Nasrin under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
A three-member committee led by Sylhet district police superintendent Moniruzzaman was formed over the matter and legal actions were taken against two police members who were on-duty that night, said officer-in-charge of Jaintapur police station Anowar Zahid.
On Saturday, after concluding autopsy, Nazrul’s namaj-e-janaza was held at Kohaigar mosque in Chikonagul union.
