A three-member probe committee formed over the incident of a doctor leaving a pair of surgical scissors inside a patient’s stomach during surgery one and a half years ago in Faridpur, reports UNB. The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College (BSMMC) authorities on Sunday formed the probe body headed by Department of Surgery Associate Professor Kamrul Hasan. The other two members are Prof Dr Kaniz Fatema of the Gynecology Department and Dr Kamruzzaman of the Surgery Department. The committee has been asked to submit a report within the next five working days. On Saturday, doctors at Faridpur’s BSMMC removed a pair of surgical scissors from inside the patient’s stomach, after discovering it on Wednesday when the patient was rushed to a local hospital
after she complained of severe stomach pain.
On March 3, 2020, the patient, 18-year-old Monira Khatun, of Gopalganj’s Muksudpur, underwent a stomach surgery at the BSMMU Hospital.
Saifur Rahman, the director at BSMMC, said Monira was undergoing treatment at the hospital. “Her condition is improving.”
Faridpur Civil Surgeon Siddiqur Rahman blamed the negligence of the doctor over the incident.
Meanwhile, Faridpur Additional District Magistrate Liton Mia visited Monira at the hospital and inquired about her physical condition.
