Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said BNP’s ill motive has been revealed through the speeches of some leaders of the party on the occasion of the historic March 7.
“We were really astonished when BNP declared that they would observe the historic March 7 after 50 years. BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and his wife Khaleda Zia did not give permission to play the March 7 speech of Bangabandhu when they were in power, even they banned uttering the name of Bangabandhu,” he said.
The minister said this while addressing a lighting festival in city’s Gulshan Park on Sunday night.
Dhaka North City Corporation organised the function marking the 50th anniversary of the historic March 7 with its mayor Atiqul Islam in the chair.
State Minister for Information Dr. Murad Hasan, State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, lawmakers Habib Hasan and Shirin Ahmad, AL office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua and North unit of AL president Sheikh Bazlur Rahman, among others, addressed the function.
Hasan, also Awami League Joint General Secretary, said “Bangabandhu, actually, declared the independence on that day. And, apart from the declaration of the independence, he (Bangabandhu) also called for fight for liberation. Here is the beauty of the speech,” he added.
Replying to a question, the minister said though there are many freedom fighters in BNP, their one year programme on the occasion of 50 years of independence was inaugurated recently by a convicted person. It is the reflection of their poor mentality.
