BNP will participate in JS polls: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda yesterday expressed his hope that BNP will participate in the next national elections to be held by the year-end.
He made the comment after a meeting on law and order situation with representatives of different law enforcement agencies and local administration during the forthcoming election in Sylhet, Rajshahi and Barishal City Corporations.
The CEC said there is a level playing field for all party candidates in the city polls and there will be the level playing field for all in the national polls. So it is hoped that that BNP will participate in the national elections like it is taking part in the city polls, the CEC told journalists after a meeting at the Nirbachan Bhaban.
He said the EC has provided guidelines for holding the three city polls to local administration and election related bodies. They have been asked to holding free and fair election in those cities.
All the necessary guidance have been given so that the city polls do not become questionable ahead of the national polls, he added.
Nurul Huda hoped with the help of all the parties the three cities polls will be held in peaceful atmosphere. So, there is no need to take extra security measures.
The three city polls are scheduled to hold mayor polls on July 30.
Replying to query on allegations about partisan role of police for ruling party candidates before and during election, the CEC said it is common matter to bring allegation against police, but it needs to be verified by investigation before taking action. Definitely we will take action if allegations are found true, he said.
