The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Sunday demanded its party chief Khaleda Zia’s unconditional release from jail and her proper treatment.
The party leaders demanded the release of their chairperson from a token hunger strike organised in the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh,
They warned of tougher movement if Khalead Zia won’t get unconditional release soon.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam said, we want to see our leader to take breath in the open air, not in the prison. For this there is no second option other than movement.
Oikyafront leader and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rab said, we don’t want Khaleda Zia’s release on parole. Best option is street. Even if more than one thousand people sacrifice their lives in this hall room, it won’t work.
He said, Khalea Zia is not only BNP’s leader, but of the whole country. We want nothing, but her unconditional release.
Krishak Sramik Janata League President Bangabir Abdul Kader Siddique said, if the referendum is held AL won’t win. Contrarily Khaleda Zia will sweep.
He said, in December 30 election, Oikyafront did not lose, but suffered defeat for night balloting. If Khaleda Zia is released, democracy will flourish in the country.
Jatiya Oikya Front Leader and Nagorik Oikya Convener Manmudur Rahman Manna said we will fight together for Khaleda Zia’s release. There is no fraction in the Oikyafront. We have remained united. Our seven point demand’s first one is the release of Khaleda Zia.
The programme began in the auditorium of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh at 10:30am. Leaders and activists of the BNP and its associate bodies joined the programme amid tight security. The token hunger strike ended at 4:30pm.
BNP senior leaders addressed the audiences with call not to be frustrated.On Tuesday last, the party announced the programme from a Doa mahfil held at its Naya Paltan central office.
Khaleda was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Monday with severe pain in the joints of her hands and legs, insomnia and high sugar level. Khaleda, a three-time former prime minister, has been in jail since 8 February 2018 when she was convicted of corruption. She was later found guilty in another corruption case.
