BSS, Dhaka :
Awami League joint general secretary Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, MP, yesterday said it has become clear from the remarks of BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman that BNP tried to create anarchy in the country on January 5.
“It has become crystal clear from Tarique Rahman’s remarks in London that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia wanted to carry out subversive activities. It’s her personal affair where she will go and when. But, it should be taken into consideration that there will be retaliation if anybody pelts bricks,” he said.
Nanak said yesterday while talking to reporters at the political office of Awami League president Sheikh Hasina at Dhanmondi in the city.
Informing reporters that his party leaders-workers remain alert along with the law enforcers to ensure security to people’s lives and properties, the Awami League leader said, “We are showing utmost restraint till now. We haven’t taken law in our hands. We are vigilantly observing the situation as we have
responsibilities too, to ensure security to people’s lives and properties as the ruling party.”
Nanak said, “Police requested Begum Zia to return to her residence, but she didn’t. For yesterday reason, police have beefed up her security. Khaleda Zia will have to learn politics first. Otherwise, she will be finished staging dramas.”
Another joint general secretary of Awami League Dr Dipu Moni, office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Railway Minister Mujibul Huq and central working committee member Enamul Huq Shamim were present, among others.
Dhaka City Awami League (AL) general secretary and Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram) said BNP can get permission to hold public rally if its chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman seek apology to the nation for their obnoxious remarks.
Maya said yesterday while talking to reporters at a sit-in demonstration with the leaders and workers of Muktijoddha Projanma League in front of the National Press Club at Topkhana Road in the city.
The AL leader said, “Staying in London, Tarique Rahman came up with many obnoxious remarks against Bangabandhu and in the country, destruction of people’s lives and properties has been carrying out at the instruction of Khaleda Zia. The January 5 polls of 2014 were held with spontaneous participation of people. They (BNP) didn’t take part in the polls and people can’t be held responsible for their faulty decision.”
Maya said, “We have cancelled our programmes of the Day for Victory of Democracy as Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed restrictions on holding of public rallies and gatherings. On the other hand, BNP leaders and activists have heightened people’s sufferings by torching buses since Sunday.”
Talking to reporters at another sit-in demonstration in front Awami League central office at Bangabandhu Avenue, Dhaka City Awami League joint general secretary and Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam said, “Our leaders and workers remain vigilant. We are not chanting slogans and bringing out procession anywhere. It’s not violation of the restriction imposed by DMP.”
Awami League labour affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, Dhaka City AL organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad and office secretary Shahidul Islam Milon were present, among others.
