The BNP is planning to reconstitute the party after the release of its senior leaders. Party insiders said that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is waiting for the release of the senior leaders to start the process of reorganising the party. She wants to share her views with them and take their opinion in this regard.
BNP expects that some senior leaders of the party, who have been in detention for several months, will come out of jail as soon as possible through legal process, as the government is now not facing pressure of anti-government movement.
Mentioning the country’s present political situation normal as their party is not on movement, BNP’s current spokesman and its International Affairs Secretary Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon hoped that party senior leader, including Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, would be released soon.
He, however, said that Khaleda Zia has already announced her move to rebuilding the party and its front bodies. The process will start in suitable time, he added.
The BNP leaders understand, Mirza Fakhrul is going to be released soon, as there is no more hurdles for his release following the granting of the High Court bail in three vandalism and arson cases on Sunday. This removes all obstacles for the release of the BNP leader from jail, said his lawyer Advocate Joynul Adedin. BNP hopes other senior leaders, including standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Chairperson’s Adviser Shamsuzzaman Khan Dudu and joint secretary generals Salahuddin Ahmed and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, will also be released one after another.
The BNP leaders went into jail on charge of vandalism, arson attacks and such other violence during the anti-government movement in the beginning of the year. However, Salahuddin is now in an Indian jail.
The party also hopes that the hiding leaders will also come out of hideout after getting bail from the court. The party’s standing committee member Mirza Abbas is among the leader who is now in hiding facing several cases of arson attacks and various acts of sabotages.
A BNP leader said Khaleda Zia would reshuffle the party after discussing with Mirza Fakhrul and other senior leaders of the party. The BNP chief depends on Mirza Fakhrul on party’s organising issues. She also depends on Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Salahuddin for important impacts in this regard.
Sources said, Khaleda Zia is also giving importance to reshuffle of the Dhaka and Chittagong city units. The process of reconstitution of the two units may be started soon.
