Accusing the government of indulging in killing of opposition men, the BNP on Sunday said the downfall of government is now a matter of time.
The party will also honour the victims of the ongoing movement as ‘national heroes’ once it returns to power.
In a statement on Sunday, BNP Joint-Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed said, “The illegal government has moved from door to door of the international community for getting recognition. Finally, it has been finally
rejected. So, it indulged in the killing. But, it could not stop its downfall through killing.”
The BNP leader claimed that the current political crisis has been created due to the last year’s January-5 one-sided and voter-less election. “The government is now trying to portray the prevailing political crisis as a militant issue. But its evil efforts to project Bangladesh as a militant country before the world have gone in vain.”
Mentioning the killing of two BNP activists in a so-called gunfight in Barisal, he said police had fabricated the story of crossfire after killing them in a planned way. The BNP men– Tipu Hawlader and Kabir Hossain– were arrested from Dhaka on Thursday and later they were killed in the so-called gunfight on Agailjharha-Gopalganj bypass road on early Saturday.
Condemning the incident, Salahuddin Ahmed said that the persons who were involved in killings in the name of crossfire would be brought under dock by forming international tribunal after political changeover.
He also said that children and other family members of the victims, who have been crippled, will be rehabilitated with proper compensation.
Salahuddin also criticised Prime Minister’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy for his remarks against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. In a post of his Facebook page on Saturday, Joy commented, “Khaleda is not a national leader. She is a national disgrace.”
On behalf of Khaleda Zia, he called upon the leaders and workers of the BNP-led 20-party alliance to continue the ongoing movement in a peaceful manner until their demand is met.
