The BNP on Saturday gave thanks to the government of India after a court of that country acquitted its Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed of charges brought against him.
“We are giving thanks to India as one of its courts had acquitted our party leader Salahuddin Ahmed. The judgment proves that the India courts are free and independent,” said BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press briefing in the party’s Nayapaltan office.
On Friday, a Shilong court of the country’s Meghalay state freed Salahuddin Ahmed from a case of trespassing on the country.
Rizvi Ahmed hoped that Salahuddin Ahmed would be sent back soon.
He depicted the India court judgment as a victory for the people of Bangladesh.
Besides, Rizvi Ahmed criticised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent statement against the Jatiya Oikya Front leaders.
He said, “It is impossible to hold free, fair and inclusive election under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. So, there is no question to go to polls under her government.”
He accused the government of snatching people’s voting and other basic rights.
He also criticised Election Commission’s efforts to introduce Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), saying EC is trying to introduce EVM for digital vote rigging favouring the ruling Awami League.
BNP central leaders Nazrul Islam Monju, Munir Hossain and Belal Ahmed, among others, were present.
