The BNP has submitted memorandum to the Deputy Commissioners across the country demanding its Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail.
As part of the countrywide programme, a BNP delegation, led by its Dhaka district unit President Dewan Mohammad Salahuddin Ahmed and party’s central Organising Secretary Fazlul Haue Milon, submitted the memorandum to DC Mohammad Salauddin around 11:00am at his office in the old part of the city.
After submitting the memorandum, BNP leaders and activists staged a demonstration in front of the DC office, and chanted various slogans demanding Khaleda’s release. Earlier, several hundred BNP leaders and activists gathered near Victoria Park from 10:00am. The law enforcers also took place surrounding the areas from early morning.
BNP Chairperson’s adviser Barrister Ziaur Rahman, its Assistant Organising Secretaries Abdus Salam Azad and Shahidul Islam Babul, BNP leaders Munshi Bazlul Basit Anju, Ahsanullah Hasan, Khondaker Abu Ashfak, Rezaul Karim Paul and Badiuzzaman Badi were, among others, present.
BNP leaders and activists across the country have submitted memorandums to the DC offices as a part of the programme.
BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged in a press briefing in the party’s Nayapaltan office that police intercepted their peaceful programme like submitting memorandum to DCs demanding Khaleda’s release.
Referring to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Kamal’s Saturday’s remark that police are not obstructing BNP’s peaceful programmes, Rizvi said a responsible minister’s comment should have reflection like that.
Rizvi strongly opposed ruling party General Secretary Obaidul Quader’s remark that BNP would go to polls keeping Khaleda in jail, and said that no election would be held without her participation.
“We would rather say that no election is possible without Khaleda Zia’s participation. She is part and parcel of the BNP, the source of inspiration, lifeguard. Besides, the people will not allow anyone to hold the polls without her. People will foil all the plots to hold the polls keeping her in jail,” Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said.
The BNP leader slams Obaidul Quader for its remark saying, “Quader sometimes talks like that of a BNP policymaker on one hand and Awami League General Secretary on the other.” He also questioned the minister, “Where did you (Quader) get the information that BNP will participate to the election keeping Khaleda Zia in jail?”
