BSS, Dhaka :
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu criticized Begum Khaleda Zia and BNP to take a blunt stand for militants and war criminals and requested all the democratic and progressive forces to stop favoring BNP just now.
He said this on Friday while speaking as the chief guest at a memorial meeting marking the 27th death anniversary of the founder of Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal (ML) Comrade Mohammad Toha at Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) auditorium here.
“Once a popular and prominent party, Muslim League was dumped into the dustbin of history as it opposed the Language Movement and the War of Liberation. Likewise, the BNP will face the same fate for supporting militancy, Jamaat and war criminals,” he also said.
“It will not be wise to equate Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, who initiates holding trials of war criminals and actions against militancy, with Khaleda Zia, who patronizes militants, Jamaat, war criminals and other evil forces,” the minister opined.
“This is high time to decide whether we will support Sheikh Hasina or Khaleda Zia for the betterment of the nation. There is no way to sit idle or keep ourselves away,” Inu, also president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), called upon all the left-leaning political parties and progressive forces.
“We have likings for BNP what we had for Muslim League. But, the new generation now even does not know the name of the party (Muslim League) and BNP is currently progressing with the same path by favoring militants and war criminals,” he also said.
He called upon all the democratic and progressive forces to stop supporting BNP if they do not want to see the rise of militancy and evil forces like Jamaat and war criminals and desire development of the country.
The minister requested the people to stop advocating for a dialogue to hold a general election with participation of all the political parties, saying, “We will not hold talks with any razakars (anti-liberation elements), war criminals and their patrons (BNP)”.
“If Khaleda Zia wants election, she would have to part company with militancy, war criminals and Jamaat and shun the politics of violence,” he added.
