The opposition political parties are criticising the government for not having secured significant achievement during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official visit to India from September 5-8.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) lashed the government saying that there was no visible achievement in the PM’s recent visit. Rather the nation witnessed a killing of a Bangladeshi national by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and missing two others.
“It was said that the border killing will be brought to zero. But Bangladeshi was killed and two others missing on the same day of the commitment. This is our achievement,” BNP Secretary General Fakhrul Islam said.
He said this after paying tribute to the grave of former President Ziaur Rahman in the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Friday.
“We did not find any visible achievement except 53 cusecs of water from Kushiyara River,” he added.
“We have told earlier that the government has become desperate. You can remember that Foreign Minister (Dr AK Abdul Momen) said he requested Indian government to keep the Awami League government in power,” he mentioned.
“We always believe in democracy. We also believe that the democratic countries often uphold democracy and play role to establish people’s rights. India is our friendly country as well as a democratic country. We believe that India will maintain its democratic character,” he added.
Criticising the government for preventing them to hold their peaceful programmes, Fakhrul said.
