Bangladesh Nationalist Party is drafting a new strategy in order to compel the government to form an election time neutral government.
“The ruling Awami League has snatched the people’s franchise right. They are not ready to give AL any more chance to hold the one-sided national polls again. What strategy we will follow will be clear in due time,” said Ameer Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a Standing Committee Member of the BNP to The New Nation on Friday.
He added if the government think that they will be able to hold another one- sided national polls as they did on January 5, 2014, it will be fatal one.
Sources said, the senior leaders of the party are designing new strategy to meet the demand. In the same time they are also drafting plans to lead the party from the front if the party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is convicted in cases filed against her.
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, the government wants to keep our party chief away from next election. But the people will remain with us. The party leaders also said that the middle and grassroots level leaders of the BNP favour the party’s participation in the next election.
“The grassroots level leaders and activists want fresh programme and preparations for taking part in the election, free and fair. They do not want to remain in the dark. They have by this time suffered lots and as such they dislike hesitation,” one of the Central Organising Secretaries of the party told The New Nation preferring anonymity.
He said the party high command has formed 77 committees with central leaders to conduct organising tour in every district to revive morale of root level leaders and activists.
One of the senior leaders said, the next Parliament election is not far. It is high time to regain all out morale of our leaders and activists across the country.
The party leaders and activists have to appear in courts often as cases after cases have been filed against them without valid reasons. Thus they have to spend lots of time. Still they are morally strong and want to take part in the national election. The Rangpur City Corporation election result did not weaken them, as the zone is under the grip of the Jatiya party.
When contacted, BNP Joint-Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal told The New Nation,”The central leaders of 77 committee’s are now trying to solve all problems facing the activists. But we think the major issue is to compel the government to form a election time neutral government.”
Alal said, “It is not only our party men, but the whole nation is deprived of voting right. The people are now waiting for a direction from Begum Khaleda Zia. Our Chairperson must give the direction in time.”
