Staff Reporter :
The BNP on Saturday rejected Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s call for national unity.
“There is no question to respond to the PM’s call for national unity as it is totally impractical. The Prime Minister had given us words during pre-polls dialogue that the government would not file fictitious cases against BNP men. But she failed in her promises. PM’s calls for national unity during her address to the nation are nothing but illusion,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told it in his reaction to the prime minister’s speech while talking to the journalists at the party’s Nayapaltan Office.
The BNP also turned down PM’s call for taking oath by MPs of the party.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “The December 30 election had not reflected people’s verdict. The ruling party was involved with serious and unprecedented vote robbery. They usurped power through such unacceptable polls. Now they are asking the opposition to join the Parliament, which is totally ridiculous.”
He said, “How should we consider to join the parliament? We have already turned down the election and its results. So, it is clear that
BNP MP’s will not take oath.”
“Her address to the nation is another trick, and she tried to befool people,” Fakhrul said.
The BNP leader also reiterated the party’s demand for fresh election under a neutral government cancelling the December 30 polls results.
Mirza Fakhrul also criticized Prime Minister’s comparative study about election results between the AL and the BNP.
“Her statement has demonstrated that they did not actually win the election. There is no need to explain the victory if it is achieved in the right way,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul said there is no security of life in the country now, but anarchies everywhere.
BNP Vice-Chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhury, central leader Abdus Salam Azad and Tangail district unit General Secretary Farhad Iqbal, among others, were present.
