UNB, Dhaka: BNP has decided to hold a rally in the city on Tuesday to observe January 5 as ‘Democracy Killing Day’ registering the party’s protest against 10th parliamentary elections held on that day in 2014. The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the party at its Nayapaltan Central office on Saturday. Briefing reporters after the meeting, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “We recognise January 5, 2014 as a Democracy Killing Day. As part of our movement for restoration of democracy and marking January 5 we’ve decided to hold a peaceful rally on the day at Suhrawardy Udyan.” Besides, he said, their all district units will also observe the day by holding discussions in their respective offices on the day. The BNP leader said they have already sought permission from Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the Suhrawardy Udyan authorities for the programme. “We hope the government and the authorities concerned will help make the rally a success and allow systematic continuation of democracy,” he said.
