BNP joint secretary general Mahbub Uddin Khokon on Saturday said they believe they would get back BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed alive soon.
“After a meeting with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner we’ ve become a bit optimistic that Salahuddin Ahmed is alive and we’ll get him back soon,” he said.
Khokan, also the general secretary of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), came up with the remarks at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the evening.
Earlier in the day, a delegation of pro-BNP lawyers, led by Mahbubuddin Khokan, met DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah’s office.
The delegation members also include Dhaka
Bar Association’s former president Sanaullah Miah, its incumbent president Masud Ahmed Talukder, general secretary Omar Farroque, its leaders Mohsin Miah, Khorshed Miah Alam Mosleh Uddin Jasim, Golam Mostafa Khan and Iqbal Hossain.
Khokan said, they are now a bit assured that they will get back their missing joint secretary general.
Asked whether police admitted that Salahuddin is in their custody, he did not give any direct reply, saying police are investigating whether Salahuddin is in the custody of any law enforcement agency.
The SCBA leader said the commissioner assured them that the police will play a neutral role in the upcoming election to city corporations and no one will be arrested unjustifiably.
