BNP not to participate in by-polls

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the party may not participate in by-polls at Laxmipur-2, Sylhet-3, Dhaka-14 and Cumilla-5 constituencies.
He said it at a press conference at BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan Office on Sunday.
Criticizing Election Commission (EC), he said, a virtual meeting of BNP Standing Committee was held on May 22. In the meeting, the committee decided that the election
system in Bangladesh completely collapsed under Huda Commission. It had already been proved that this commission utterly became incapable and government interfered in all kinds of elections. So, the party took decision that it won’t participate in the next by-polls.
Government should step down on account of mismanagement in controlling Covid-19 treatment, he added.
“Government has to take the responsibility for uncertainty in getting coronavirus vaccine.”
BNP Secretary drew the attention of the government and said, the Covid-19 situation and ‘black fungus’ a newly emerged health crisis got worse in India, being taken as fear in Bangladesh. Urgently government should have disclosed the roadmap about the vaccine and ‘black fungus’ to the people of the country.
The Election Commission (EC) will declare schedule on Monday (May 24) in a bid to hold by-polls in four vacant constituencies in the upcoming July.
In this regard, the EC took the decision in a meeting at its Agargaon office in the capital on Wednesday last.
