The BNP will hold a national convention to combat militancy after upcoming Hajj. The party chief Begum Khaleda Zia will arrange the program after returning from Saudi Arabia observing Hajj to forge a national consensus against extremism. BNP will keep whole the allies
of 20 party alliance as a part of its strategy to avoid boycott of some parties who want not sit together the alliance’s partner Jamaat-e-Islami, sources said.
BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on Sunday night sat with the top leaders of 20 party alliances to discuss about the current political situation of the country.
The meeting sources said, the meeting has taken decision to organise a protest rally against coal based Rampal tharmal power plant. The alliance chief Khaleda Zia will address a press conference at her political office in Gulshan by end of this month or the beginning week of September with a call to the government to stop the Rampal coal based Power plant. In the same time BNP chief will also ask again to forge a national unity to fight militancy.
“To form a national force is a matter of government. But as a responsible national leader Begum Khaleda Zia has called to the government to forge that. If the government finally ignore the call we will then must walk forward our own path in the issue,” BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy told it to The New Nation.
When contacted Labour Party Chairman Dr. Mustafizur Rahman Iran, the ally of the 20 party alliance said, the alliance leaders have given all responsibility to forge a national consensus against terrorism to Begum Khaleda Zia. She may forge a national unity with the parties who are willing to join with the platform.
Some top leaders of the alliance said, the BNP want to keep the alliance out of the national consensus process due to other desire parties to join the unity do not want to sit with Jamaat, the key ally of the alliance.
One of the leader said, Krishak Sromik Janata League President Abdul Quader Siddique recently said while meeting with BNP chief that he will not go ahead with the unity plan with Jamaat. Bangladesh Bikalpa Dhara President Prof. Dr Badruddoza Chowdhury, Gono Forum President Dr. Kamal Hossain and JSD President ASM Abdur Rab who were desired leaders for BNP to join to the unity are in same stance about Jamaat.
“The BNP want to keep two side intact. The party want to keep Jamaat together to keep the voting field healty. Beside, it wants to take all the political parties who are staying out side of the ruling 14 party alliance like CPB, BASOD to one plat form to strengthening its movement against the government to compel them to hold fresh Parliament election,” said, one of the alliance leaders preferring anonymity.
Under this strategy the BNP will keep aside the 20 party alliances the new platform against militancy, he added. “The BNP alone will represent behalf of the alliance in the national unity,” he said.
