UNB, Dhaka :
Maintaining its ‘no-comment policy’ over verdicts against war criminals, BNP has refrained from giving reaction Jamaat-e-Islami policymaker Mir Quasem Ali’s death sentence for his war crimes.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi declined to make any comment when reporters at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on Sunday asked him about his party’s reaction to Quasem Ali’s capital punishment.
He also said it will be their personal opinions if the party leaders give any reaction to the verdict as the party has no reaction to the verdict. Earlier in the day, convicting detained Mir Quasem Ai on charges of crimes against humanity, including murder, during the Liberation War, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 unanimously sentenced him to death.
Following the judgment, Jamaat-e-Islami called another hartal for Thursday protesting the death sentence against its leader.
Although four senior BNP leaders were contacted, no one of them was ready to say anything about the judgement of the court.
BNP has made no comment, officially or unofficially, on the verdicts so far delivered by the Supreme Court and the International Crimes Tribunals against the war criminals, including its two leaders.
BNP also did not make any comment or issue any condolence message over the death of ex-ameer of the Islamic party and war crimes convict Ghulam Azam.
Though the party has questions about the standards and neutrality of the International Crimes Tribunals, it has long been maintaining its ‘no-comment policy’ over the court’s verdicts against war criminals, apparently to avert criticisms.
