BNP mayoral candidate attacked on the first day of campaign in Manirampur municipality election

BNP mayor candidate Shahid Iqbal Hossain was attacked on the first day of a campaign in Manirampur municipality of Jashore District Yesterday . At that time, a BNP activist was injured.
Panicked after the incident, the traders closed their shops within a moment.
Upon receiving the news, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control. The incident took place at Rajganj intersection of the municipal town around 10:30 pm on Tuesday.
Shahid Iqbal Hossain, president of the Upazila BNP and mayor candidate for sheet of paddy symbol, claimed that first he found some activists of AL and Chhatra League is tearing off the paddy posters in the municipal town.
He later protested the incident and complained about some leaders and activists. Enraged leaders and activists of the Youth and Chhatra League first attacked him in front of the Central Jame Mosque.
Later, at around 10:30 pm, a second attack was carried out at Rajganj intersection of the municipal town and he and a BNP activist named Ayub Hossain were beaten were..
In order to protect himself, he took refuge in the shop of Tulsi Basu, the president of the Upazila Puja Parishad at Rajganj.
Iqbal Hossain, a candidate for of BNP, alleged that the Youth and Chhatra League had attacked him on the first day of the campaign for violating the code of conduct. Upon receiving the news, the police came to the spot and took control of the situation. Confirming the attack on the BNP mayoral candidate,
Puja Parishad president Tulsi Basu said, During the attacked, some goods were damaged due to hitting the shutter of his shop.
However, after the arrival of the police, Shaheed Iqbal Hossain left his shop.
Manirampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam said that after receiving the news, police patrols in the municipal town were intensified and the situation was brought under control.
BNP mayor candidate Shahid Iqbal Hossain said he filed a written complaint to the Police and election commission .
Upazila Awami League general secretary lecturer Faruk Hossain said, BNP candidates create various issues to boycott the election and do not stay on the election field in the end. It seems that as part of this, there has been a misunderstanding over the issue of dropping posters of paddy. We want competitive elections. On behalf of the Awami League, I hope that the BNP will remain in the electoral field till the end.
