BNP may take part in NCC election

The BNP is likely to take part in ensuing Narayangonj City Corporation (NCC) election, which will be taken place on December 22. The election will be a first case to be held with the political parties symbols.
The senior leaders of the BNP said they think if the election holds free and fair manner their candidate will be winner in NCC.
 “The BNP is a pro-election party. We usually participate every legal election. The issue of participating polls of NCC is yet to be decided. The standing committee meeting may decide it on Thursday night,” Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Standing Committee Member of the party told The New Nation yesterday
According to the schedule, 24th November is the last day to submit the nomination papers of Mayor and councillor candidates. In the meantime, the probable candidates of major political parties including ruling Awami League and the BNP are passing busy time to select their mayoral candidates.
Sources said, district unit BNP’s President Advocate Taimur Alam Khandakar, General Secretary Kazi Moniruzzaman and city unit General Secretary ATM Kamal are in the discussion as the party’s mayoral candidate.
Advocate Taimur Alam Khandakar was the BNP’s candidate on the first election of the NCC on October 30 in the year of 2011. But the BNP turned him back from the election race seven hour before starting the vote casting.
When contacted Taimur Alam Khandakar told The New Nation, “Our party has not taken part in the last election of NCC. I have been pulled out by the party high-ups just before seven hours of voting. I do not know whether our party take part or not in the up coming NCC polls. But the local leaders and activists of the BNP is ready to take part in the election.”
The leader said, “There are many faction in the ruling Awami League in Narayangonj. But the BNP leaders and activists are united in the area. So, we believe that if our high command decide to participate the election, we may win.”
