Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud said BNP leaders started making meaningless comments regarding budget as their plans to create turbulence across the country over excise duty and uniform VAT has been foiled.
“BNP leaders planned to create political unrest over excise duty on bank accounts and uniform VAT. But their plans have been foiled…So they have started making meaningless comments on the budget,” he said.
He said this on Friday while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled, ‘Budget of Awami League led Government, Budget of making ‘Sonar Bangla’ of Bangabandhu’ organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (BSJ) at Shilpakala Academy in the city.
Executive President of the BSJ noted actor ATM Shamsuzzaman presided over the discussion while Vice-Chancellor of World University Professor Dr Abdul Mannan Choudhury, AL leaders Shamsul Hoque Tuku as well as Talukder Mohammad Yunus and BSJ General Secretary Arun Sarker Rana, among others, spoke at the programme.
Hasan, also the Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Forest and Environment Affairs said, “It is very normal that people will make different comments on budget, but it is not wise to criticise blindly on any matter”.
He said if BNP leaders criticise constructively the government will take
their analysis under consideration.
