Staff Reporter : The BNP-led 20-party alliance has called 72-hour countrywide hartal from Sunday morning protesting killings, mass arrest, torture on party activists, cutting off food supply to the party chief’s office and restoration of democracy. The fresh hartal is announced two days after the five-day hartal by the anti-government alliance ended on Thursday. BNP Joint Secretary General Salauddin Ahmed, in a press release issued on Saturday, said that the BNP-led alliance will enforce the shutdown at 6:00am Sunday, which will continue till 6:00am Wednesday. The hartal is also meant to protest “killing of opposition leaders and activists in the name of crossfire, repression, and filing of false cases against alliance leaders”, and demanding the release of all political prisoners. Salauddin Ahmed, on behalf of the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia, called upon the party leaders and activists to enforce the hartal peacefully. The opposition alliance enforced 72-hour hartal in last week and then extended for 36 more hours. Giving a pause for Friday and Saturday and BNP again called the nationwide hartal.
