Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka Court on Thursday placed MA Matin, who was arrested from Benapole border area, on an eight-day remand.
Magistrate Shahriar Adnan Hossain passed the order after Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Mohammad Zaher Hossain produced him in his court seeking a 10-day remand to interrogate him in connection with the murder of Italian citizen Cesare Tavella. The court rejected the bail plea of Matin’s lawyer on his behalf.
The lawyer told the court that some miscreants had picked up Matin from in front of his residence on October 20. Later, his family members lodged a general diary (GD) with Badda Police Station in the city.
The detectives allegedly arrested him on Wednesday night for his suspected link with Tavella murder when he was trying to leave the country.
It has been alleged that the name of MA Matin came up in the confessional statement of accused Vagne Russel who had been arrested on October 26 in connection with Tavella murder. Detained Matin was brought to the capital from Benapole on Thursday morning.
Cesare Tavella, 50, Project Manager for PROOFS (Profitable Opportunities for Food Security) of the Netherlands-based non-governmental organisation ‘ICCO Cooperation’ was shot dead by some miscreants in the city’s Gulshan area on September 28.
His colleagues filed the case with Gulshan Police Station the same day. It was
transferred to the DB on September 29.
