Habib-un-Nabi Khan alias Sohel, Joint Secretary General of BNP and also President of Dhaka South City Unit, was arrested from the city’s Gulshan area on Tuesday evening.
He had been taken to Gulshan Police Station around 7:30pm, said Rafiqul Islam, Assistant Commissioner (Gulshan Zone) of Dhaka Metroplitan Police(DMP).
But he did make any comment over the arrest.DMP’s Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman told the media that Sohel was arrested based on specific information.
Police were hunting for Sohel for a long time since over 50 cases, including sabotage cases, were pending against him in different police stations, the DC said.
The law enforcers went to his residence in the city’s Shantinagar several times, but did not find him there, the Police officials said.
BNP Chairperson Media Wing Officer Shamshuddin Diar also confirmed the reports.
We shall brief the reporters about the arrest, he said.
Sohel was seen in a joint rally in front of BNP party office at Naya Paltan for the last time. After that, he went hiding.
