BNP leader killed in Magura cop firing

A local BNP leader was killed in police firing during a clash between BNP-Jamaat men and them at Shatokhali in Shalikha upazila on Sunday evening.
The deceased was identified as Mashiur Rahman,
45, president of Shatokhali union unit of BNP and son of Golam Nabi Gazi of Chhoyghoria village in the upazila.
Assistant police super Sudarshan Kumar Roy of the district said the clash broke out around 6pm when police tried to disrupt the procession brought out in support of the hartal by a group of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islam activists.
The BNP and Jamaat men vandalised several shops at the bazar and hurled brick chips at the law enforces.
Later, police fired 10 shots to bring the situation under control, leaving Mashiur Rahman dead on the spot, Sudarshan Kumar said.
Police recovered the body and sent it to sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. Police also recovered five petrol bombs from the spot.
Five policemen, including Shalikha thana officer-in-charge Biplob Kumar Nath, were injured as the processionists threw brick chips at them.
